Shawn Levy To Produce Post-Apocalyptic Romance, 'Monster Problems'

Shawn Levy is a busy man of many talents. The "Real Steel" director is currently gearing up to direct "The Internship," a comedy that will reunite "Wedding Crashers" stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn for the first time since the 2005 flick hit theaters. But now we're also hearing that he's in talks to produce an upcoming post-apocalyptic film from up-and-comer Brian Duffield.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which is describing "Monster Problems" as "a post-apocalyptic road movie in the vein of 'Mad Max' and 'Zombieland' with a John Hughes-esque love story at its center." It's an intriguing premise, and one we'd like to know more about.

Unfortunately, we probably won't know much more until the project lands a director. Duffield is a name that's been heard around Hollywood a lot recently. Lynne Ramsey (and Natalie Portman) and Eli Craig have picked up Duffield's two other scripts?"Jane Got a Gun" and "Your Bridesmaid's a Bitch," respectively.

Post-apocalypse meets John Hughes is a premise we can totally get behind, though. We've seen plenty of strange romantic mash-ups come out in recent years, and with several zombie love stories in the pipeline, nothing can really surprise us anymore. We'd be interested to see if Levy ends up jumping on board "Monster Problems," since it would be a new genre for him to dabble in. In addition to "Real Steel," Levy has directed "Date Night" and "Night at the Museum," and most recently produced "The Watch."
