Sigourney Weaver 'Not Holding Breath' For 'Ghostbusters 3'

Woe is the plight of the new "Ghostbusters" movie. Despite all the good intentions, the cast being excited to get together again, director Ivan Reitman onboard, and a script by "Year One" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky in second draft stage, there's really no plan for when and if the production will begin.

MTV News caught up with potential star Sigourney Weaver at the premiere of her new film "Abduction" last night to see if there was any new news to report about the film, and most importantly, if she'd heard anything from notoriously elusive Bill Murray.

"I see Bill every now and then, [but] I'm not holding my breath," she admitted. "I'd like it to work out. I have about six movies coming out so I've been busy without thinking about it, but I hope we do do it."

Weaver didn't seem too excited to talk about the project and its perpetual in limbo state, and we couldn't get her to speculate further on what the plot might revolve around. She once hinted that Murray's character Pete Venkman might appear in the movie as a slimer ghost, and that Oscar, her character's son from the second movie, would be a full-fledged Ghostbuster, which would be hilarious, but doubtful that it will come to be.

Meanwhile one of the film's biggest cheerleaders, Dan Aykroyd, has said that they will proceed with or without Murray.

"What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributed to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]." Aykroyd said. "The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."

Will we ever see a new "Ghostbusters" movie? Tell us in the comments or on Twitter!
