Lily Collins has gone from playing Snow White in the upcoming "Mirror, Mirror," to possibly kicking some undead ass in "The Evil Dead" remake.
THR reports that Collins is in "early talks" for the updating of the legendary horror-comedy that starred Bruce Campbell in the role of Ash. Bloody-Disgusting has some additional details, stating that Collins would play Mia, the lead character and a female version of Ash, who heads to a cabin in the woods with friends. They discover a Book of the Dead, demons are unleashed, and Mia's left fighting for her life. While that sounds familiar, there's also a bizarre druggie subplot, as Mia is staying at the cabin to try to overcome an addiction and heal from a recent overdose.
We'll find out more when Fede Alvarez's version hits the screen on April 12, 2013. For now, let us know what you think about the possibility of Collins being cast as a lady Ash, and dig into the rest of this week's horror news past the break!
"Carrie" Gets Another Remake from 'Boys Don't Cry' Director
"Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Peirce will make an awkwardly shy high school girl weep like a baby (while covered in pig's blood) when she films an upcoming remake of Stephen King's 1974 novel, "Carrie." "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will pen the script, which promises to be a faithful retelling of the novel, and "more grounded" than Brian De Palma's movie starring the awesome Sissy Spacek. Does that mean they'll go light on the wacky telekinetic hijinks? Hopefully not, because watching Carrie open up a can of whoop ass on her psychotic religious mother and bullying classmates is pretty great. We're sad that David Cronenberg or David Lynch won't be directing, as King previously shared he wanted to see, but it'll be interesting to see what Peirce will bring to the table. She hasn't done much of anything since crafting the award-winning 1999 movie.
"The Machinist" Director Takes Over Serial Killer Story "The Hive"
"The Machinist" and "Session 9" director Brad Anderson will be directing a serial killer thriller that centers on the tense action stemming from a 911 call center. An emergency operator tries to save a teenage girl from a madman and face her own fears in "The Hive." Anderson came on board to replace "The Lost Boys" director Joel Schumacher, and the production is planning a spring start date. "I'm extremely excited about working with Troika on "The Hive." This script has two elements I always look for in a thriller ? strong, believable female characters and a smart, very dark and very creepy story that will definitely resonate with large audiences," Anderson shared. If you've ever seen the chilling "Session 9," then you'll know why we're excited to see where this one goes.
Zombie Fave 'World War Z' Could Become A Trilogy
Brad Pitt chatted about "World War Z" during a recent interview with the L.A. Times. The actor is producing and starring in the remake of Max Brooks' zombie opus as a United Nations employee racing against time to stop a zombie pandemic that threatens to destroy all of humanity. In the article, it's mentioned that Paramount is considering launching a "World War Z" trilogy "that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, Damon's Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC's "The Walking Dead."
