Fans of writer-director Steven Soderbergh know him to be one of the most interesting filmmakers in the biz. From his beginnings with independent films, to blockbusters and documentaries, the Oscar-winner is constantly thinking up new ways to tell unique stories with film.
For his latest effort, "Haywire," the idea came to Soderbergh after seeing MMA fighter-turned-first-time actress Gina Carano in action in the cage.
The film puts Carano front and center as a black ops super soldier who seeks the ultimate revenge after she is betrayed by her colleagues. Those colleagues are played by the very capable Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas and Michael Douglas.
We're huge fans of "Haywire" here at MTV News. It is seriously kick ass, but don't just take our word for it. Check out what McGregor had to say about the super cool flick when we caught up with him recently during the film's press day.
"I've seen it three times now," McGregor said. "Normally I'll see it before press and then I'll see the film at the premiere and that will be it, but this I've had the chance to sit through three times and I have every time."
"I really like watching it," McGregor continued. "[Soderbergh] has made a very, very cool film, [it's] very slick and he's elevated the movie way above the script, which was very, very good in the first place, but as an action fight thriller film he's taken it somewhere very cool."
"Haywire" opens January 20.
