Mission Impossible: The Quest For Tom Cruise In Dubai

By Joel Hanek

MTV News reporter Josh Horowitz and producer Joel Hanek are currently in Dubai covering the world premiere of "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol." These are their stories.

Producers log, day two: The quest to interview Tom Cruise continues.

The premiere of "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" is set to kick off this year's Dubai International Film Festival. Being the investigative journalists that we are, MTV News reporter Josh Horowitz and I suspected that the stars of said film would be in Dubai to promote their movie ? and we were so right. But interviewing the "MI:4" stars wouldn't be until tomorrow, so we decided to get the most of this once in a lifetime cultural experience.

Yes, that was probably all the sun Josh needed. So we headed to the Dubai Mall, which is the largest mall in the world. Much like your grandparents, we spent the afternoon strolling through the mall. After passing by the ice rink, aquarium, and indoor Sonic the Hedgehog theme park, we were exhausted. To unwind from the adventure, we decided to head 124 floors up to the top of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, and also where some of the more spectacular scenes of the film were shot. We needed to get into the mindset of the stars before we interview them ? it's called "method journalism."

Much to our chagrin, they would not allow us to repel from the top-floor observatory.

In a few short hours and with many pastries still to come, we will finally come face to face with our target. Consider this "Mission: Sorta Almost There."
