It's been a little more than a year since "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters" was announced. Though the plan then was to get production underway by the summer, the fantasy adaptation has been slowly trudging its way to the big screen.
First it got a new director in the form of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid's" Thor Freudenthal. Then it got an official release date: March 26, 2013. And last but not least, we learned that "Big Love" star Douglas Smith would be joining the returning actors like Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson and Alexandra Daddario.
Well, now there's some new casting news that has us triple marking "March 23, 2013" on our calendars. Click on after the jump to find out what has got us in such a tizzy.
"Firefly" and "Castle" star Nathan Fillion is reportedly joining the cast of "Sea of Monsters" as the Greek god Hermes. The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Fillion will play the deity father of the story's antagonist Luke, who is played by Jake Abel. In the first "Percy Jackson" film, "The Lightning Thief," Dylan Neal played the role of Hermes.
"The Lightning Thief" had its fair share of awesome adult actors, but there's something about Fillion playing a Greek god that seems destined to happen. When I heard the news, I personally started picturing him playing the role much like he did Captain Hammer in "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," and how fitting would that be. I would pay to see just a five-minute sketch of that.
