When we think of actors most likely to be in a musical, Jack Black, Steve Carell, Nicholas Cage, Kevin Kline and Elizabeth Banks don't initially come to mind, but a musical is exactly the project they've all signed on for.
Charlie Kaufman's new comedy "Frank or Francis" is a satire of Hollywood that follows a rivalry between director Frank (Carell) and online blogger Francis (Black) brought on by a series of bad reviews. Banks plays a celebrated actress involved in a love affair with Frank, Cage is "The Emcee," an actor famous for his movie ideas, and Kline plays a director with the world's highest grossing film in his repertoire.
When MTV News' Josh Horowitz caught up with Black at CinemaCon 2012, the actor revealed the film is a musical with an "incredible script."
"[The script is] under lock and key. It is a musical," Black shared. "I will be singing. Everyone will be in fact. If you're in that movie you will be singing. There's no just regular talking it's all [singing]."
That's usually what a musical is, right? But it seems Black got a little carried away. "That might not be the case," he continued. "Don't quote me on that."
Too late.
"Erase that part. I gotta go back and read the script again. Maybe there is some regular talking mixed in. In fact, there is," he finished.
